The Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the South African Human Sciences Research Council (HSRL) seek to appoint research assistant who will work closely with the Project manager and research team on a study that aims to contribute to the evidence base on Early Childhood development interventions. Whose Child is This? Primary schools Transition Study is a complement to the Better Way Foundation funded whose Child is This? Phase I and phase II projects in Lesotho. The study will contribute to the evidence base with the intent of influencing government policies and investments in the sector by the Ministry of Education and Training and other Key stakeholders. By identifying children who participated in Whose Child is This? Phase I activities now that they have transitioned to primary school, and comparing them to children from the same environment who did not participate in the initial phase. The study hopes to show the long term benefits on investments in early childhood education programs.
Successful incumbents with be responsible for child development data collection and locating and interviewing of children and caregivers at schools, households and communities in the selected district namely Leribe and Thaba Tseka.
Successful applicants must have the following criteria:
-diploma or higher degree in social sciences;
- experience in conducting both quantitative and qualitative interviews
-experience in facilitating focus groups
-experience in data collection, data entry and data analysis
-Research experience in rural and semi urban settings
-knowledge of school locations in Leribe and Thaba Tseka District
-excellent, demonstrable command of English and Sesotho
-ability to use a digital recorder
-willingness and ability to travel
-demonstrated ability in collaborative/team work;
-ability to work under pressure and adhere to set standards of the project;
-Willingness to be subject to criminal record check
-having worked with children in the past will be a plus
